Earlier this month, singer Frank Ocean announced his new luxury brand, Homer. This announcement comes as a surprise after months of Frank being completely MIA from the public eye. Including deleting all of his Instagram posts. Homer is an Independent American Luxury Company. A catalog was seen on the brand’s website that you could request, which sold out quickly. The first collection has fine jewelry and silk scarves designed in New York and handmade in Italy. Many people noticed the similarity to brands such as Takashi Murakami and the inspiration of the 90’s/2000’s. With bold colors and abstract shapes. The prices range from $395 to $1.9 million. In a rare interview with the Financial Times, Frank stated that he didn’t want their work to be any less expensive than Cartier. Unfortunately, this brand will not be available online. You can only purchase through a phone call or in-person by making an appointment at their Downtown Manhattan store located in the Jewelry District.
Also, in this interview, Frank shared his inspiration for his brand. He stated that he loved jewelry as a child. His mother was interested in jewelry, and his godfather loved cars, guns, luxury lifestyle magazines. In the official press release, he also stated that childhood obsessions and heritage as a fantasy were an inspiration. It all influenced his love for jewelry and luxury in his life. According to Frank, the name Homer means carving history into stone. Family is significant to him. He also shared that he has created a family crest, and he wants to create things that last.
The creation of Homer is three years in the making for Frank. Beginning with the help of 20 individuals that were invited into his home to create designs and architecture. These creations also are seen in the catalog. This experience gave him the idea of making jewelry. He stated in a message on Instagram that he has a lot more to share with us strangers. Some have even suspected that a Prada collaboration is on the way. He has served as a spokesperson in the past. Also, a Prada logo jacket was in the catalog.
In my opinion, I am very interested in what Frank is going to share with us in the future with this brand. As a dedicated fan of him since 2012, I have kept up with every update about him over the years. From possible hints of new music to the rare appearances that he would make. Since Frank is so mysterious and secretive with his life, you never know what to expect from him. I certainly never expected this was what to come from him, and many others didn’t either. Many of his fans were upset that Frank was selling million-dollar necklaces instead of going to the studio. I am very excited about Homer, and I can’t wait to see what’s to come in the future. I want to see Frank Ocean succeed in the fashion industry like many of his peers, such as Kanye West, Rihanna, and Tyler the Creator. I’ve even ordered a catalog and made sure that I followed the brand on Instagram. Hopefully, I will be able to purchase one of these luxury items to support Frank someday!
